Graz in Summer: Our Favorite Spots
Graz in summer has a lightness all its own. Here are the places we love sending our guests.
Schlossberg at Sunset
Ride up on the Schlossbergbahn or take the steps, grab a cool drink at the top - and the old town lies at your feet, bathed in golden light. The Uhrturm feels close enough to touch. Our favorite moment of the day.
Murinsel & the Mur Promenade
The floating island in the middle of the Mur is a café by day and a meeting spot by night. From there you can take a wonderful stroll or bike ride along the promenade - flat, shady, relaxed.
Kaiser-Josef-Markt
The loveliest market in town (Mon-Sat, mornings): Styrian fruit, cheese, flowers, Kürbiskernöl (pumpkin seed oil, a regional specialty). Perfect for stocking your apartment’s kitchen with local goodies.
A Day in the Südsteiermark
Just about a 30-minute drive away, the “Styrian Tuscany” begins: gentle hills, wine roads, and Buschenschanken - rustic tavern gardens run by winemakers, serving homemade Brettljause (a hearty platter of cold cuts, cheese, and bread). A perfect summer outing.
Craving a Cool-Down?
On hot days it’s worth a plunge into the Auster - Graz’s most modern pool complex with a large outdoor area - or a trip out to the Schwarzlsee, south of the city.
