Clean lines, high-contrast black-and-white tones and pared-back design define The Black and White - a 78 sqm apartment for up to six guests, made for everyone who values style and comfort in equal measure. A retreat with character: simple, refined and unmistakably Graz.
Step into The Black and White and the first thing you notice is what's missing: nothing is too much. A low-slung black sofa, a light floor, the contrast of a cleanly drawn coffee table, and the 50-inch smart TV as a calm focal point. No overstuffed cushions, no style clashes - this apartment dares you to embrace reduction. Yet it's not a sterile loft: warm accents in the lighting and textiles make sure you feel at home immediately. The living room faces the quiet courtyard garden, and the couch pulls out into a comfortable bed for two - which is how the apartment lands at a capacity of six guests.
The Black and White has two full bedrooms, each its own room with its own door off the hallway, each with a real king-size bed and its own 50-inch smart TV. Both rooms follow the apartment's design language: calm wall surfaces, dark bed frames, high-quality linens from Denmark, a mirror and a clean reduced wardrobe. Because each room has its own separately accessible door, privacy stays intact - practical when two couples travel together or when parents share with older kids. The bedrooms face the street toward Steyrergasse, but the newly refurbished double-glazed windows dampen traffic noise very well, and black-out curtains keep nights deep.
We love when an apartment invites you to cook. The Black and White has a fully equipped eat-in kitchen with dark fronts, light cabinetry, cooktop, oven, microwave, dishwasher, large fridge, kettle and an espresso machine. Plates, cutlery, pans and pots for six people, a cutting board - everything you need to cook. The dining table seats a whole family or a small team. SPAR supermarket is about 100 m away, the nearest bakery (Martin Auer) around 6 minutes on foot, and the Kaiser-Josef market is a pleasant 13-minute walk or a short ride on tram 4 or 5 - perfect for anyone who treats self-catering as part of the travel experience.
The bathroom keeps the design principle going: walk-in shower, clean tiles, a well-lit mirror and our RITUALS care in refillable reusable dispensers with shampoo and shower gel. Instead of rough hotel cloth, soft in-house towels in multiple sizes are ready for you; the hairdryer is there, the toilet paper of course. For direct bookings a final cleaning of 29 EUR per stay is added to the nightly price. Either way you don't have to clean anything at check-out - just leave the keys and travel on relaxed.
Even in our most minimalist apartment, the outdoor space stays generous: the balcony faces the quiet courtyard garden, not the street. You sit here in the morning with an espresso, watch kids play football or table tennis in the garden, or enjoy the calm in the evening with a glass of southern Styrian wine. The garden belongs to the house and is open to all guests - with a table-tennis table, football goal, go-karts, a sandbox and garden furniture. In summer it often becomes the secret favourite spot.
The Black and White is one of our most photogenic apartments - design lovers book it specifically for the monochrome atmosphere. Families appreciate the two separate bedrooms and access to the playroom (air hockey, darts) and the garden. Friend groups find an apartment that looks like it stepped out of a magazine and at the same time works as a living room. Business teams use it as a shared base during Messe Graz - highspeed Wi-Fi, the dining table as a workspace, and two separate retreat rooms each with its own door.
You stay east of the Mur at Steyrergasse 86. Tram lines 4 and 5 stop at the Steyrergasse stop about 100 m away, so almost in front of the door - it's around 15 minutes to Graz Central Station directly on tram 4, about 15 minutes on foot to the old town and main square, and roughly 25 to 30 minutes to Schlossberg with its Clock Tower. Messe Graz is only about 0.5 km, around 8 minutes on foot down the same street; the airport is 7.6 km away and reachable in about 30 minutes by public transport. This location between the academic and business axis makes The Black and White interesting for very different travellers - families, scientists, business teams, design seekers - all find the same calm courtyard refuge here.
