Balmy Summer Evenings: Graz After Sunset
Summer in Graz has its finest hour when the sun sinks behind the Schlossberg. The heat of the day fades, the city breathes again - and that’s exactly when we love to send our guests out the door. Here are our favorite spots for a balmy Graz summer evening.
Up to the Schlossberg for the Blue Hour
When the light turns golden, our first path leads upward. Up the Kasematten steps or comfortably by the Schlossberglift - at the top a glass of wine awaits you, along with the view over the red rooftops of the old town and the Uhrturm glowing in the evening sun. Later, the sea of city lights unfolds below: for us, the loveliest moment of the day.
A Stroll Along the Mur
Down by the river the air is at its most pleasant in the evening. The Murpromenade invites you to a slow walk or a gentle bike ride - flat, shady, relaxed. The Murinsel, half café, half work of art, shimmers in the water, and from the bridges you can watch the last rays of sunshine fade away.
In the Tavern Gardens of the Old Town
In summer, Graz lives outdoors. In the Schanigärten - the little pavement terraces cafés and taverns set up in the warm months - around the Mehlplatz or the Färberplatz, you sit close together over a Spritzer (spritzer, wine or Aperol topped with soda) or a glass of Styrian wine until the light fades. No big program, no noise - just the Graz way of life.
And Then: Coming Home
The loveliest part of the evening, for us, is coming home. When you return to the apartment after your stroll, the quiet Innenhof welcomes you - right in the heart of the city and yet far from the bustle. One more glass on the balcony, the warm night air, and the Graz summer winds down in perfect peace.
